A ban or permit limit on bringing a product into a country

An open dictionary on a farm office desk
Plain meaning
A ban or permit limit on bringing a product into a country
How to use it
Where a restriction protects the venture's product, plan for the day it is lifted. Price competitiveness against imports should be in the stress test.
South African benchmark
South Africa uses tariffs and anti-dumping duties more than outright bans (Article 78).
Country notes
Botswana restricted a range of vegetables from 2022, lifted the ban in phases after December 2024 and reinstated it on key vegetables; Namibia uses NAB controls.
